SpaceX's Starlink Offers New Payment Options for Nigerians to Access Internet Service

25 Jun 2023

SpaceX's Starlink offers new payment options for Nigerians to access internet service via its satellite constellation. The company recently announced that Nigerians can now use Payday or Barter to order Starlink hardware. These payment channels allow individuals to create virtual dollar cards and fund them with naira, which has become essential since the suspension of international transactions on naira cards. Despite the price being quoted in naira, only those with dollar cards can complete the payment process.

Starlink aims to provide satellite internet access coverage to 48 countries and has been operational in Nigeria since January 31, 2023. The company has also announced its plans to expand its services globally and offer mobile phone service after 2023. This development is significant for Nigerians who have had difficulties accessing stable and reliable internet services, especially in remote areas.
Industry analysts have speculated that the Payday and Barter payment options were introduced to address the challenges faced by Nigerians in completing their orders after reaching the payment stage. Starlink has also provided notice that Nigerians can reserve their Starlink and receive a notification when it is ready to ship. The service costs N19,260, while the hardware is priced at N268.874 based on the official rate. Nigerians who are interested in exploring the internet via Starlink can take advantage of these payment options and order the hardware to enjoy its benefits.
