YouthADAPT Challenge 2023 For Africa’s Female Tech Innovators ($100,000)

The Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program, a collaborative effort between the African Development Bank and the Global Centre on Adaptation, is excited to announce the launch of the third edition of the YouthADAPT Challenge. This initiative is aimed at empowering and supporting young entrepreneurs who are actively contributing to the fight against climate change.


About YouthADAPT Challenge:

The annual YouthADAPT competition is calling upon young entrepreneurs who lead micro, small, and medium enterprises in Africa to submit groundbreaking solutions and innovative business ideas. These proposals should be geared towards driving climate change adaptation and enhancing resilience across the African continent.


The theme for 2023:

This year, the call is centered on female-owned enterprises that are pioneering Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. We are seeking visionary innovators who are utilizing technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, virtual reality, robotics, the internet of things, quantum computing, additive manufacturing, blockchain, and fifth-generation wireless to address climate adaptation challenges.


Benefits for Winners:

The selected winners of the YouthADAPT Challenge will receive the following benefits:

  • A grant of $100,000 each to further develop their climate change adaptation solutions and business ideas.
  • Mentorship and coaching opportunities to refine and expand their projects.
  • Inclusion in the YouthADAPT Alumni Network, offering a dynamic platform to learn from a community of youth entrepreneurs from across Africa.


Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to participate, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Age: The entrepreneur must be between the ages of 18 to 35.
  • Citizenship of Founder: The founder must be of African nationality or actively involved in the enterprise's operations.
  • Geography and Legal Registration: The business must be legally registered in Africa.
  • Profitability: The business must have generated profits for the past two years.
  • Impact on Climate Adaptation: The business must demonstrate a direct impact on climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Gender: Only female-owned enterprises are eligible, with at least 51% of shareholding held by females.
  • Industry: The enterprise must operate within the realm of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies.


Application Deadline:

The application deadline for the YouthADAPT Challenge 2023 is November 5, 2023.
