OpenAI has introduced GPT-4o Mini, a new AI model designed to be faster, cheaper, and more accessible for developers and consumers. This model replaces GPT-3.5 Turbo, offering improved performance at a lower cost.
GPT-4o Mini excels in text and vision tasks, scoring 82% on the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU) benchmark, surpassing other small models like Gemini 1.5 Flash and Claude 3 Haiku. Olivier Godemont, OpenAI’s Head of Product API, emphasized the model's affordability as a key to making AI accessible worldwide.
With operating costs over 60% lower than GPT-3.5 Turbo, GPT-4o Mini is priced at 15 cents per million input tokens and 60 cents per million output tokens. The model features a 128,000-token context window, useful for extensive applications, and future updates will include video and audio capabilities.
OpenAI has tested GPT-4o Mini with companies like Ramp and Superhuman, demonstrating its ability to streamline tasks and boost productivity. Available today on the ChatGPT web and mobile app, GPT-4o Mini will roll out to enterprise users next week.
