The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed an agreement with the Bill Gates Foundation to establish an AI Scaling Hub in Nigeria. The foundation will provide around $7.5 million in funding and expertise to support this initiative.
Bosun Tijani, Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, shared the news on his X account, reflecting on recent engagements with Bill Gates and African innovators.
“A few weeks before my appointment as minister, I had the privilege of moderating a powerful conversation with @BillGates and young African innovators,” Tijani said.
He added, “Today, mid-way into President @officialABAT’s administration, I had the honour of welcoming Mr. Gates, Paulin Basinga, Uche Amaonwu, Bunmi Okunowo, and the incredible Gates Foundation team to my office. We concluded the visit with something truly historic — the signing of an agreement to establish the Nigerian AI Scaling Hub, backed by up to $7.5 million in funding and expertise from the Foundation.”
Tijani emphasized that the initiative will help accelerate AI’s application in critical sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and education, especially where it can make a tangible impact on the everyday lives of Nigerians.
