Lagos State Taps Omo Eko App to Transform Urban Transportation

23 Jan 2025

The Lagos State Government has announced the development of the Omo Eko app, a mobile application poised to revolutionize transportation in the bustling metropolis. Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, shared the update on social media platform X, revealing that the app is currently 90% complete.

The Omo Eko app was recently showcased at a stakeholders engagement meeting held in Alausa, Lagos, where Commissioner Osiyemi emphasized its significance in advancing Lagos towards becoming a smart city. By leveraging technology, the app aims to enhance urban mobility, making it more efficient and user-friendly for residents and visitors alike.

As one of Africa's fastest-growing cities, Lagos grapples with numerous transportation challenges, including severe traffic congestion, limited public transit options, and inefficiencies in service delivery. In response to these pressing issues, the Lagos State Government has prioritized technology-driven solutions as part of its broader vision under the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which focuses on transportation and technology.

Osiyemi highlighted that the Omo Eko app will serve as a vital tool in this strategy, offering Lagosians and visitors real-time navigation, traffic updates, and essential information about the Ministry of Transportation and its agencies, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS).

The introduction of the Omo Eko app marks a significant step towards improving urban transportation in Lagos, providing residents with the resources needed to navigate the city's complex transport landscape effectively. As the app nears completion, anticipation grows for its potential to enhance the daily commute and overall transportation experience in one of Africa's largest cities.
