Lagos Hospitals to Receive Technological Boost Through HERhealthEQ Alliance

10 Apr 2025

The Lagos State Government has announced a significant initiative to enhance maternal and child healthcare in low-income communities through a strategic partnership with HERhealthEQ, a US-based non-profit organization dedicated to addressing global health disparities.

As part of this collaboration, HERhealthEQ will contribute to the technological advancement of healthcare delivery in Lagos by donating ten Butterfly iQ+ handheld ultrasound devices to local hospitals. This initiative aims to improve maternal health screenings and overall healthcare access for underserved populations.

According to a statement from the Lagos State Government, the Butterfly iQ+ devices represent a breakthrough in portable medical technology, providing a whole-body imaging solution for point-of-care diagnostics. Healthcare providers will be able to perform obstetric assessments, maternal health evaluations, cardiac and vascular examinations, and pediatric interventions directly at the patient's bedside, significantly enhancing the quality of care in resource-limited settings.

"The deployment of advanced diagnostic tools like the Butterfly iQ+ will greatly improve access to quality prenatal care and facilitate the early detection of maternal health risks," stated Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih, Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This partnership underscores Lagos State's commitment to leveraging innovative solutions to improve health outcomes for mothers and children in the region.

The collaboration with HERhealthEQ not only highlights the importance of technology in healthcare but also emphasizes the need for ongoing support and investment in medical infrastructure to address health disparities in Nigeria.
