Gozem's Acquisition of Moneex Signals Super App's Ambitions in Fintech

10 Jun 2024

Gozem, a Francophone Africa super app, has acquired Beninese fintech startup Moneex in an undisclosed deal. Moneex's co-founders, Florent Ogoutchoro and Henry Ukoha, will retain an equity stake.
This acquisition will enable Gozem to launch its mobile money solution, Gozem Money, in Togo and Benin.
Martial Konvi, Global Head of Product at Gozem, said: "Expanding our financial services through Gozem Money is the next step in our commitment to providing essential digital services to our users across Africa. With the addition of the Moneex team, we are well-positioned to accelerate the introduction of our innovative fintech offerings to the market."

Moneex was founded in 2021 as Kryptonite Africa and initially specialized in cryptocurrency-based remittances between Europe and Benin. However, the company quickly rebranded as Moneex in 2022 to focus on addressing the lack of access to global banking services for African businesses and individuals.
Since then, Moneex has expanded its market to Francophone West Africa and offers multi-currency accounts to both businesses and individuals in the region.
Florent Ogoutchoro, Co-Founder and CEO of Moneex, said: "Our fintech expertise and Gozem's reach and resources will allow us to accelerate our mission of making better financial services accessible to everyone."
Gozem launched in 2018 as a motorcycle, tuk-tuk, and car taxi transportation app and quickly became the leading ride-hailing app in Togo. The company has since diversified its offerings to include delivery and logistics services and is now a multi-vertical super app operating in 13 cities across Togo, Benin, Gabon, and Cameroon.

Since its launch in November 2018, Gozem has amassed a user community of one million registered members who have completed over 10 million trips. The company has raised over $46.6 million in funding since its inception, including a $10 million investment from the International Finance Corporation for its vehicle project in Togo and Benin.
