Egypt's Crafty Workshop Secures $400,000 in Seed Funding Round

18 Nov 2023

Crafty Workshop, a prominent education technology company based in Egypt, has clinched a substantial $400,000 in a recent seed funding round. The investment drive was spearheaded by EdVentures, the Middle East's first corporate venture capital firm with a keen focus on the edtech industry.

Established in 2019 by founders Hadeer Shalaby and Amgad Moustafa, Crafty Workshop stands out as a leading e-learning platform, particularly catering to creative fields. The startup offers a diverse array of creative courses and workshops spanning areas like art, design, programming, game development, photography, and more.

The core mission of Crafty Workshop is to deliver accessible and high-quality education, empowering learners to nurture their creative skills and pursue their passions effectively. Beyond education, the company also serves as a vocational skills training provider, addressing youth unemployment concerns by providing essential skills and assisting in job placements.

Hadeer Shalaby, one of the co-founders, expressed her excitement about the funding round, highlighting its potential to expedite the startup's growth. She said, "We are thrilled to have received this investment from EdVentures, which will enable us to accelerate our growth and make a greater impact in the Edtech space. We are excited to expand our reach to the Gulf Region, enrich our content library, and enhance our offerings for schools involved in creative productions."

Crafty Workshop's Unique Approach

Educational technology companies originating from Egypt are relatively rare, but Crafty Workshop distinguishes itself by providing a wide range of courses and workshops taught by experienced professionals across creative fields. The curriculum focuses on being engaging, practical, and applicable in real-world scenarios, emphasizing the development of relevant skills and techniques. Courses are accessible online, either in pre-recorded formats or live sessions through the platform.

With the recent funding boost, the startup envisions significant growth and expansion, aiming to extend its operations into the Gulf Region and diversify its content offerings to encompass 500 subjects within the creative industries by 2024. The company also aims to develop a specialized product tailored for schools engaged in creative productions.

This marks the second investment from EdVentures for Crafty Workshop, following an initial investment in 2019. Maged Harby, General Manager of EdVentures, highlighted the successful partnership, saying, "We are delighted to continue our support for Crafty Workshop. Our initial investment in 2019 marked the beginning of a successful partnership, and since then, Crafty has made remarkable strides in both the Egyptian market and the Gulf region. At EdVentures, we are committed to investing in endeavors that foster innovation in the edtech ecosystem and contribute to the development of human capabilities. Crafty Workshop aligns perfectly with our vision and mission."

Crafty Workshop's recent funding success underscores the increasing demand for accessible, high-quality education in creative industries. The company remains steadfast in its mission to empower individuals and organizations to thrive in the creative sector by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and resources essential for success.
