Airtel Nigeria is enhancing home entertainment with the launch of its Smart Router, a 4G router that connects up to 10 devices.
The Airtel Smart Router uses both wireless and ethernet connections to provide users with a smart TV experience directly through their television screens. With built-in applications, users can easily access popular streaming platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Showmax, enhancing their viewing experience with personalized and current content. Commenting on the launch, Chief Commercial Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Femi Oshinlaja, said the new Smart Router represents a major leap forward in how people experience entertainment at home.
“With the Airtel Smart Routers, we can now deliver affordable and superior entertainment content from multiple streaming services to the home of many Nigerians without a non-smart TV set. By integrating advanced connectivity and a user-friendly interface, we are offering our customers the ability to unlock a world of digital content directly on their TVs,” he said.
Offering seamless connectivity and access to a wide range of digital content, the Smart Router, which is SIM-based and 4G capable, can support a mix of entertainment, security, work, and leisure devices all on the same internet subscription. “Users can connect smart cams, smart doorbells, tablets, smartphones, laptops, and TV at the same time,” Oshinlaja noted.
Prospective users can purchase the Smart Router online for N25,000. The purchase includes unlimited data for 30 days and a 100% bonus for six months when they recharge the N10,000 – N15,000 bundle. These bundles can be purchased via Airtel.com.ng/HBB, *370#, bank apps, Quickteller, or any other airtime/data purchasing apps. Get it ONLINE
A New Era or Just Another Gimmick?
As Nigerians increasingly struggle with internet affordability, Airtel seems to be identifying these loopholes and providing innovative solutions. The introduction of their unlimited internet data router was a notable step, and now, with the Smart Router, they are doubling down on this commitment. This device promises not just internet connectivity but a holistic smart home experience, rivaling what devices like the Amazon Firestick offer.
But the question remains: Are Nigerians truly ready to embrace this smart home revolution, or is this another tech gimmick that will falter under the weight of economic realities?
As Airtel ventures further into the realm of smart home solutions, it raises an intriguing question: Will this innovation bridge the digital divide in Nigeria, or will it highlight the ongoing struggle for affordable and reliable internet access?
