Village Capital Open Applications for Greentech Africa 2024

A significant initiative has been launched to address pressing environmental concerns in Africa. Greentech Africa 2024, a collaborative program established by Village Capital and Moody's Foundation, seeks to empower innovative and sustainable solutions that actively combat climate change across the continent.

This program aligns with a broader global movement encompassing Latin America and Asia. The collective focus is to support and empower startups tackling climate change through various means, including:

  • Environmental protection: Implementing strategies to mitigate environmental damage and promote a cleaner future.

  • Improved agricultural practices: Enhancing agricultural efficiency and fostering the development of sustainable food sources.

  • Waste reduction: Minimizing waste generation and promoting responsible waste management practices.

  • Resource preservation: Developing solutions for the sustainable use and protection of natural resources.

  • Essential services: Facilitating access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare.

Focusing on Specific Areas:

Geographically, Greentech Africa 2024 prioritizes startups from Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa. The program seeks ventures that offer solutions in these key areas:

  • Cleantech and Climate Tech: Technological advancements addressing climate change and fostering environmental well-being.

  • Agtech and Food Security: Tech-driven initiatives aimed at developing nutritious food sources, improving agricultural efficiency, and increasing yields while promoting sustainability.

Selected entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to participate in a series of online workshops scheduled for August to September 2024. This curriculum equips them with the necessary tools and networks to maximize their impact and empower their communities.

  • Financial Coaching: Dedicated investment analysts will offer one-on-one coaching on building financial models, understanding unit economics, and leveraging financial metrics for both business growth and attracting investors.

All participating startups gain access to Abaca, Village Capital's online global network. This platform provides entrepreneurs with the tools to assess their investment readiness and connect them with relevant investors and resources.
