10 Jun 2023

The YC Winter 2023 batch received over 20,000 applications from founders around the world and selected only 282 to fund. Today, the founders are presenting their companies to an exclusive audience of investors at the 36th Demo Day.
Some noteworthy statistics about the batch include that 59% of the applicants had applied to YC before, 52% were accepted based on an idea alone, and 28% had already raised money before YC. Furthermore, 77% of the batch had no revenue before YC, but 2% were already generating over $50,000 in monthly revenue when accepted.
The themes of this batch were primarily open source, dev tools, and AI. The verticals were a diverse mix of B2B/enterprise SaaS, DevTools, Fintech, Healthcare, Consumer, Proptech, Climate, Energy, Sustainability, and Aerospace.

Regarding diversity, the batch consisted of 13% Asian, 2% Black, 5% Hispanic or Latino, 3% Middle Eastern or North African, 8% multiracial, 15% South Asian, and 29% white founders. Additionally, 17% of the companies had female founders, and 8% of the founders were women.
The program started with an in-person retreat, followed by weekly meetups in San Francisco. Although most founders spent the batch in the Bay Area, the program was still remote-friendly, with batch talks and office hours hosted online.
Overall, the YC Winter 2023 batch was impressive, and we look forward to seeing the successes of these innovative startups in the future.
