Spotify will introduce a new premium add-on tier, enhancing its services with high-fidelity audio and advanced playlist management tools. This tier, referred to internally as "Supremium," will cost an additional $5 per month. This represents a 40% increase over the base plan, though the exact cost will vary depending on the user's plan.
Designed as an add-on for current subscribers, "Supremium" allows users to remain on their current plans while opting for the upgrade if they desire enhanced features. This new tier aims to generate additional revenue for Spotify and its business partners.
The "Supremium" tier will offer better audio quality, including 24-bit lossless audio, enhanced user capabilities such as AI-generated summaries, tools for creating and managing playlists, and more advanced music library management. If added to the standard Spotify Premium plan, set to increase to $11.99 per month, the total cost for users would be $16.99 per month.
Hints about these features have surfaced through code found within the Spotify app, mentioning "lossless has arrived" and details about lossless quality up to 2,117kbps using the FLAC format. Reddit users have also spotted code indicating the arrival of lossless audio and leaked UI elements mentioning 24-bit / 44.1kHz quality for "limited songs."
This announcement follows Spotify's initial plan to introduce a HiFi audio feature in 2021, which faced delays. Reports from Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal have confirmed ongoing development, with Bloomberg revealing last year that Spotify was working on a higher-priced "Supremium" HiFi plan. Another report suggested the potential inclusion of a remix feature to speed up tracks within the add-on.
With this new premium tier, Spotify is enhancing its core product offerings while focusing on commercial and enterprise applications for GPT development. The add-on aims to simplify user experiences, making it easier to manage multiple email accounts, sort schedules, read long messages, and track orders. These features will be available to new users in the US and will roll out to existing US users on an opt-in basis starting today, with plans to extend these updates to the Yahoo Mail mobile app.
