Nigerian EdTech Startup Klas Secures $1 Million Pre-Seed Funding for Global Expansion.

28 Feb 2024

Klas, a Nigerian edtech startup, has secured $1 million in pre-seed funding, marking a significant milestone for its expansion plans beyond Africa. Led by Ingressive Capital and supported by Techstars, HoaQ, and other investors, the funding positions Klas for growth into international markets.

Founded in 2021 by Nathan Nwachuku at age 18, Klas has quickly become known as the "Shopify for online teaching." Its platform enables users to establish virtual schools, create courses, and conduct live lessons, attracting over 5,000 creators teaching 300,000 learners across 30 countries.

Earlier investments, including a $130,000 angel round, provided crucial support from notable Nigerian figures such as Tola Adesanmi and Odunayo Eweniyi. Techstars Toronto also recognized Klas's potential, selecting it for its 2022 Winter cohort.

With the new funding, Klas aims to expand its creator base to over 100,000 globally by 2027 while refining its pricing model for sustainability. Despite competition, particularly from YouTube in India, Klas remains focused on providing an integrated ecosystem for educators and learners.

Nathan Nwachuku emphasized Klas's unique approach, highlighting proprietary tools like KlasLife, designed to deliver a seamless virtual classroom experience. As Klas ventures into India and North America, it seeks to reshape online education, empowering creators and learners worldwide.
