08 Jun 2024

Microsoft has announced the commencement of the application period for the 2025 Imagine Cup competition, inviting students worldwide to participate in the 23rd edition of its prestigious global startup contest.

Students from various educational backgrounds are encouraged to apply and take part in this renowned competition, which focuses on developing technological solutions to address both local and global challenges. The Imagine Cup provides a unique platform for students to showcase their innovative ideas and gain recognition on an international stage.

Participating in the Imagine Cup offers students a wealth of opportunities. They can gain valuable skills, connect with like-minded peers, access exclusive training and mentorship, and stand a chance to win impressive prizes. Most importantly, students will have the chance to contribute to a better world through their technological innovations.

The 2025 Imagine Cup competition will place a strong emphasis on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Participants will have the opportunity to work with the latest generative models in the Founders Hub, utilize Azure credits, and benefit from expert mentorship. The competition's grand prize includes a cash award of USD 100,000 and a mentorship session with Microsoft Chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella.

Reflecting on past successes, Team FOR YOUR EYES emerged victorious in the 2024 season by leveraging GPT-4 and their image recognition technology. They developed a mobile application and API that provide real-time visual explanations for users with visual impairments. This innovative application allows users to create their own AI assistant to describe photos, videos, and other visual documents and integrates with smart glasses and watches to enhance the users’ understanding of their surroundings. Additionally, FROM YOUR EYES licenses its technology to other developers and businesses via its API, securing multiple partnerships in the process.

Kenya’s team TAWI claimed victory in the 2023 season with their groundbreaking solution designed to assist children with auditory processing disorder (APD). APD is a condition where the brain struggles to process sounds perceived by the ears. TAWI’s innovation uses real-time speech recognition technology to reduce background noise, improve speech clarity, and convert speech to text, thereby aiding children in better understanding spoken language.

As Microsoft opens the doors for the 2025 Imagine Cup, the competition is set to inspire and empower a new generation of innovators. Students who participate will not only enhance their technical skills but also have the opportunity to make a significant impact on global issues through their creativity and ingenuity.
