LinkedIn is introducing three new games designed to stimulate thought: Queens, Crossclimb, and Pinpoint. These games can be found in the News section on LinkedIn’s homepage or the MyNetwork tab on the app.
Drawing inspiration from logic puzzles, trivia, and word association, each game offers daily challenges that promote problem-solving abilities and encourage a spirit of friendly competition. Queens, a game akin to Sudoku, tests players’ ability to arrange crowns in unique patterns within a set time frame. Crossclimb, a trivia-based game, requires players to create words that fit into a grid, with clues that transition from one word to the next. Pinpoint, on the other hand, challenges players to find links between words with minimal hints.
LinkedIn envisions these games as a relaxed way for users to interact and form relationships on the platform, extending beyond professional networking. As Dan Roth, VP and Editor-in-Chief of LinkedIn News, says, “We aim to offer people a means to stimulate their minds during a quick break, while also providing a reason to connect with others.”
In line with LinkedIn’s commitment to productivity and minimizing distractions, each game can only be played once per day. This aligns with LinkedIn’s focus on delivering concise, contained experiences. Laura Lorenzetti, Executive Editor for LinkedIn in North America, emphasizes that these games are designed to provide a brief, enjoyable respite without compromising work efficiency.
Games have demonstrated their effectiveness as a tool for boosting engagement on social platforms. LinkedIn seeks to harness this potential to foster deeper connections among its diverse user base. As these games gain popularity, LinkedIn intends to continually enhance its gaming experience and explore new avenues for incorporating interactive elements into its platform.
LinkedIn is capitalizing on the convergence of gaming, knowledge exchange, and professional networking to enrich user experiences and foster collaboration among professionals globally. While LinkedIn is not the first social media platform to integrate games, this strategy has yielded mixed results for others. For instance, Facebook discontinued its standalone gaming app in 2022 due to a decrease in usage.
