23 Jan 2025

Lagos, Nigeria – The Lagos State Government has officially announced the launch of the Eko Digital Training program, aimed at equipping young residents with essential digital skills necessary for thriving in today’s technology-driven world. Scheduled to take place from June 20 to June 24, 2025, the training sessions will be held in the vibrant tech hubs of Yaba and Badagry, known for their burgeoning entrepreneurial spirit.

The Eko Digital Training program is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive skill set, including digital and entrepreneurial skills, emotional intelligence training, and foundational knowledge in artificial intelligence (AI). These skills are increasingly critical as businesses and industries adapt to the rapid digital transformation occurring globally.

Tolani Sule, the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, expressed optimism about the program during a press conference in Lagos on Monday. He emphasized that the initiative not only demonstrates the Lagos State Government's commitment to enhancing tertiary education but also addresses the urgent need for a skilled workforce capable of driving economic growth. “Investing in education and skills development is crucial to creating a more prosperous and competitive economy,” Sule stated. “Through programs like Eko Digital, we are ensuring that our youth are well-prepared to meet the demands of the modern job market.”

The training will cover a wide array of topics that align with industry trends, including digital marketing, coding, data analysis, and AI applications. Participants will also engage in interactive workshops designed to foster critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Moreover, the inclusion of emotional intelligence training aims to equip youths with interpersonal skills necessary for effective collaboration and communication in professional environments.

In addition to skill acquisition, the Eko Digital Training program seeks to inspire creativity and innovation among participants, encouraging them to develop entrepreneurial ideas that could lead to job creation and self-employment opportunities. By empowering the youth with both technical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset, the Lagos State Government aims to stimulate local economies and contribute to the overall development of the state.

The training program will also feature guest speakers and industry experts who will share their insights and experiences, providing participants with valuable networking opportunities. This initiative reflects an understanding of the importance of mentorship and guidance in helping young individuals navigate their career paths effectively.

In recent years, Lagos has positioned itself as a leading technology hub in Africa, attracting numerous startups and tech initiatives. However, the government acknowledges the necessity of bridging the skills gap to sustain this growth and remain competitive internationally.

As the Eko Digital Training program approaches, stakeholders are encouraged to spread the word and invite young people who are eager to enhance their skill sets and embrace the digital landscape. With a commitment to preparing the next generation for future job markets, this initiative represents a significant step toward empowering Lagos youths and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Therefore, the Eko Digital Training program stands as a testament to the Lagos State Government’s dedication to equipping its citizens with the tools necessary for success in an ever-evolving digital economy. By investing in the education and training of its youth, Lagos aims to cultivate a skilled workforce ready to take on the challenges and opportunities of the future.
