Instagram has announced an update that allows users to include up to 20 photos or videos in a single carousel post. Previously, the platform limited users to 10 pieces of content per post, a format that became popular as "photo dumps." This latest update doubles the content capacity for each post, providing users with even more creative freedom.
Originally introduced in 2017, the carousel feature has steadily evolved, now offering options like pairing slides with music and enabling collaborative posts where multiple users can contribute. The expanded slide limit enhances these features, especially for collaborative content where several users might want to add their media to a single post.
This move aligns Instagram more closely with TikTok, which currently allows up to 35 photos per post. While TikTok gained its fame as a short-form video platform, photos have quickly become a popular medium on the app, with users creating meme formats and storytelling through slides. Although Instagram’s culture hasn’t yet fully embraced this style, the increased capacity could inspire new trends on the platform.
The update is currently being rolled out to users.
