Here’s how to Apply for the 2025 £25,000 Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation

The Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation, Africa’s largest award dedicated to engineering-driven entrepreneurship, is now accepting applications for its 2025 edition. Founded by the Royal Academy of Engineering, the prize has become a pivotal platform for African entrepreneurs looking to scale their technology-focused businesses.

Since its launch in 2014, the Africa Prize has provided crucial support to 149 startups across 23 countries, helping them secure $39 million in grants and equity. The program’s track record is strong: 71% of alumni are currently generating revenue. 

What the Program Offers

The prize isn’t just about recognition; it’s designed to provide practical support that accelerates business growth. Up to 16 shortlisted innovators will receive:

  • Mentorship and Expertise: Tailored business and technical mentoring from experts in the UK and Africa, including sector-specific engineering guidance.

  • Training: An eight-month training programme focusing on key areas such as refining business strategies, scaling operations, and overcoming sector-specific challenges.

  • Networking: Access to a network of high-profile engineers, business experts, and investors, which can open doors to new partnerships and opportunities.

  • Final Presentation: Finalists will showcase their innovations at the Africa Prize event, competing for a top prize of up to £25,000.

The Africa Prize is looking for engineers and entrepreneurs who have developed, or are in the process of developing, a new technological innovation. This program is ideal for:

  • Innovators who are creating technology that addresses a specific challenge or development need in sub-Saharan Africa.

  • Entrepreneurs who have the ambition to lead a new business that will commercialize this innovation.

  • Engineers focused on projects that promote the welfare and economic development of sub-Saharan Africa.

Engineers and entrepreneurs interested in applying should first create an account on the Africa Prize’s Grant Management System (GMS). After registration, select 'Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation 2024/2025' to start the application process.
