Gemini: The End of Meeting Scribbles in Google Meet

13 Sep 2024

Meeting productivity just got a boost with Google’s new AI-powered feature, "Take notes for me," integrated into Google Meet. Recognizing that attendees typically retain only 10% of a meeting's content, Google has introduced this tool to automatically take notes, allowing participants to focus on the discussion without distraction.

Powered by Google’s advanced AI model, Gemini, this feature simplifies the note-taking process, building on the previous success of Duet AI, which managed tasks like note-taking and meeting management. The addition of Gemini offers a more efficient alternative, reflecting Google’s commitment to enhancing user experience.

The "Take notes for me" feature began rolling out on August 13th and will be available to all Workspace users by August 21st. Admins can enable this feature via the Workspace settings, offering users the ability to edit, save, share, or delete AI-generated notes directly from their Google Drive. This feature is currently available to English-speaking users with specific premium and enterprise plans.

When "Take notes for me" is active, users will see a starred pencil icon in Google Meet, indicating that AI is capturing the discussion. Though the feature is priced at $10 per month per user, it offers a high-end solution for automated note-taking, competing with tools like Fireflies. Whether it will surpass the popularity of Duet AI, which gained over a million users in its first year, remains to be seen.
