Exclusive Ride-Hailing Licenses Granted in Abuja to Address Security Concerns.

29 Feb 2024

Abuja, Nigeria's capital, is tightening regulations on ride-hailing services to combat rising insecurity. Only two companies, Bolt and Nairaxi, have received exclusive licenses from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to operate within the city.

While Bolt and Nairaxi have secured approval, popular platforms like Uber and Indrive are notably absent. The FCTA warns unauthorized operators of potential bans and enforcement actions, emphasizing the importance of regulatory compliance for public safety.

Uber and Indrive have assured their commitment to obtaining licenses. Uber has submitted the necessary documentation, while Indrive is in the process of securing approval, despite administrative delays.

The FCTA's decision aims to streamline ride-hailing operations and address security risks associated with unauthorized services. Non-compliant operators face enforcement measures, including potential bans, as the administration prioritizes safety in Abuja's transportation sector.
