Equinix Boosts Nigeria’s Digital Growth with LG2.3 Data Center Expansion

13 Apr 2025

Equinix, Inc., the world's leading digital infrastructure company, has officially inaugurated its latest data center expansion in Lagos, Nigeria. The new facility, named LG2.3, aims to support the country's growing digital transformation efforts by providing state-of-the-art colocation and secure interconnection solutions that empower businesses throughout the region.

This expansion underscores Equinix's unwavering commitment to enhancing Nigeria's position in the global digital economy and reinforces the company's dedication to fostering digital growth in the area.

The inauguration ceremony was led by Bruce Owen, President of EMEA at Equinix, along with other executives from the company. A ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of the newly expanded site, signifying a significant milestone in Equinix's investment in Nigeria.

In addition to the inauguration, Equinix executives conducted an official visit to the Governor of Lagos State and hosted an exclusive customer engagement event. This gathering brought together key customers and partners from Nigeria's business and technology sectors to discuss shared successes and the role of Equinix in facilitating digital transformation. Attendees had the opportunity to connect directly with Bruce Owen and gain insights into how Equinix's innovative solutions are driving business agility in the region.

The celebration also included a tree-planting ceremony, reflecting Equinix's continued investment in sustainable initiatives globally. This act highlighted the company's broader goal of reducing its carbon footprint while promoting environmentally friendly practices across its operations.

Commenting on the expansion, Bruce Owen stated, "Nigeria is a crucial market for Equinix. Today's opening is a clear demonstration of our continued commitment to invest in and grow digital infrastructure that will benefit the many thousands of businesses in Nigeria and throughout the continent. I am deeply encouraged by the enthusiastic partnerships and innovations emerging from this dynamic region, which continue to inspire our commitment to Nigeria's digital and sustainable future."

Wole Abu, Managing Director of Equinix West Africa, emphasized the pivotal role data centers play in driving economic growth in Nigeria. He remarked, "Data centers continue to serve as critical infrastructure that supports digital transformation and economic development. As governments and enterprises increasingly recognize their significance, global demand for data center capacity is poised to rise. While Africa's demand for data solutions is still evolving compared to more mature markets, the continent demonstrates strong potential for digital adoption and innovation. To meet this growing need, Equinix is actively advancing three major data center projects in Nigeria, with future expansion plans for Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire, and South Africa."

Equinix remains committed to its mission of enabling secure, scalable, and sustainable digital growth for global economies. With the launch of the LG2.3 Data Center, Equinix is well-positioned to support Nigeria's digital landscape and drive economic growth across the region.

The event was graced by distinguished attendees, including Abayomi Adebanjo, Director of Legal (Global & Regional Business Affairs); Funke Opeke, Outgoing Managing Director of Equinix West Africa; Michiel Eielts, Managing Director of Equinix Netherlands; Innocent Itsukwi, West Africa IBX Operations Leader; and Martin Hay, Business Integration Director for West Africa.
