If you've been excited about Apple's new macOS Sonoma (macOS 14), the wait is over. They unveiled it in June 2023 at WWDC, and now, from September 26, it's available for Mac users worldwide.
As of June 2023, macOS had a big share (over 20%) of the global desktop PC operating system market, showing how popular Macs are.
Now, some of the 100 million Mac users globally can get macOS Sonoma. It comes with improvements for gaming, work, and security.
You'll find cool stuff in macOS Sonoma, like animated screensavers and a feature that lets you train your Mac to talk like you. But the big news is Game Mode, making gaming better on Macs. There will be more PC games on Mac too, and they're working on reducing delays and making games smoother.
Other features include Presenter Overlay for video calls, customizable widgets, easy web apps, PDF editing in Notes, and better search in Messages. Plus, there's Lockdown Mode for security.
Before you switch to macOS Sonoma, check if your Mac is compatible. It works with certain models released from 2018 onwards.
But will these new features be enough to make Mac users switch from macOS Catalina (10.15)? As of January 2023, Catalina was still the most used macOS, with 87.44% market share worldwide. However, there could be some confusion in the numbers because Apple hasn't shared statistics for Big Sur.
