ALAT by Wema Launches #Hackaholics 4.0 Tagged 'Re-imagine' for Tech Talent Discovery.

27 Jul 2023

ALAT by Wema, Nigeria's leading digital bank, has launched its annual hackathon program, called Hackaholics 4.0, and tagged 'Re-imagine', to discover and nurture tech talent. This year's program aims to explore emerging technologies while expanding the student and youth ecosystem, deepening the bank's brand, and attracting and retaining tech talent. The competition is focused on young Nigerians who have game-changing concepts and products that are tech-driven or tech-enabled to address societal problems across different sectors such as education, climate, insurance, government technology, health, gender-based violence, fintech, financial inclusion, and entertainment.

The program is expected to engage 10,000 tech entrepreneurs, produce 5,000 solutions, create six pitch centers, and have nearly one million footfalls during the campaign. The competition is open to every Nigerian youth who is currently working on a solution, including non-programmers and individuals without a Computer Science degree. 40 teams will be selected per center, and only ten will pitch their ideas. The grand finale will be held at the University of Lagos, and selected participants will be given a two-day exploration trip to some top companies based on their solution vertical to learn more about their operations.

The competition provides grants for innovators and startup founders to build and scale their solutions, supports product and integration, gives massive visibility to participants' teams and solutions, provides access to the community of founders, provides coaching and mentorship opportunities, and provides learning from renowned industry experts. The winner will receive a cash prize of 3 million, the first runner-up of 2.5 million, and the second runner-up of 1.5 million. Additionally, there is a cash prize of 1 million for the first women-led startup. The Hackaholics competition aims to encourage young minds to build solutions that solve real-life problems and provide solutions around civic tech, government tech, gender-based violence, entertainment, and health.
